Week 3 Progress- Ben Edition

Ben, Week 03

Another tremendous week. As you can see from the wall of text in our Group’s post, we hammered out an incredible amount of the fine details that are going to make up our card game and what we deliver for the final presentation. My part in that was similar to the rest of the group: participate in the group discussion for developing the rules, and to develop the specifics of the cards I was responsible for designing (Tin Woodsman, Billy Pilgrim, and Deus Ex Machina).

Sounds a bit simple but that whole process took a significant chunk of hours, but by a meeting or two’s end, we hammered it out with what is more or less finality.

Percentage Done: 100%  Hours: Roughly 5

Meanwhile, some of the Non-3D artistic endeavors were underway as well. First up is LexiConquest’s new logo. I was never sure if the original one was place holder or not, but I convinced myself that we needed something a little edgier and “bad ass” that looked like a full title treatment:

EDGY AND BADASS and…more importantly, reminiscent of a cool video gamekids/ teens will want to play.

Percentage: 100% Hours: 2

EDIT! So…I just noticed I left the U out of Conquest. Pretty impressive, given the literary nature of the game. I’ll have it fixed soon. Goooo Ben!

Next up was the creation of the physical card’s back sides. Since Lauren is responsible for the front of the cards, I took the helm for designing the backs. From 9 or so basic sketches, I deduced one design and created the somewhat finished image you see below. I’m sure it will undergo additional revisions, but a ton of progress has been made:

Percentage: Eh, I’ll say 80%. I would like to tweak it some more. Hours: Roughly 3

That doesn’t mean I took a break from modeling. On the contrary, quite a few strides were made here as well, most of which for the character Billy Pilgrim. For one, I STARTED the Tralfamadoran (the big green hand from the concept art…its an alien that pulls him through time). It’s a bit trickier than I thought, but the progress is alright. The gaping hole is where the eye will go:

So, not too far, but still a good start. Billy himself has a nearly finished head:

So, he has no ears (they will be beneath the hair) and there’s no hair (trying to figure out how I want to do this, technologically). But thats more or less the crux of his head, sans a few more tweaks. He  has a fully modeled set of teeth to make use of as well.

Percentage: (including the whole character), maybe 30%. Hours: 15+

Finally, Tin Woodsman didn’t get as much attention this week but he’s still coming along.

Percentage: 30% Hours: 4

So, yea, another week of big progress. We’ll keep it up.

Ben
